Hight Voltage

 High Voltage

Lena was a hacker, but not the kind that broke into banks or government databases. She hacked into people’s minds, using a device called a voltage. A voltage was a small chip that could be inserted into the brain through the ear canal. It allowed the user to access the memories, thoughts, and emotions of another person, as long as they had a matching voltage.

Lena used her voltage to steal secrets, blackmail, and manipulate. She was good at what she did, and she enjoyed it. She liked the thrill of diving into someone else’s mind, seeing their deepest fears and desires, and using them to her advantage. She liked the power and the money she made from her clients.

But Lena’s latest job was different. She was hired by a mysterious man who called himself Mr. X. He wanted her to hack into the mind of a scientist named Dr. Lee, who worked at a top-secret facility. He said Dr. Lee had information that could change the world, and he was willing to pay Lena a fortune for it.

Lena agreed, and tracked down Dr. Lee. She followed him to his home, and waited until he was asleep. She sneaked into his bedroom, and inserted her voltage into his ear. She put on her own voltage, and activated it.

She expected to see Dr. Lee’s mind, but instead, she saw nothing. She felt a surge of electricity run through her body, and then everything went black.

She woke up in a hospital bed, surrounded by wires and machines. She tried to move, but she couldn’t. She tried to speak, but she couldn’t. She was paralyzed.

She heard a voice in her head. It was Dr. Lee.

“Hello, Lena. I’ve been expecting you.”

Lena felt a wave of panic and confusion. How did he know her name? How did he get into her head?

“You see, Lena, I knew someone would try to hack into my mind. That’s why I developed a countermeasure. A high voltage. A voltage that can fry the brain of anyone who tries to access it. A voltage that can also transfer my consciousness into their body. A voltage that can switch our minds.”

Lena realized what he had done. He had swapped their minds. He had taken over her body, and left her trapped in his.

“Why?” she asked, in her mind.

“Because, Lena, I have a mission. A mission that is bigger than you, or me, or anyone. A mission that requires your skills, and your contacts. A mission that will save the world, or destroy it. A mission that I can’t tell you, because you wouldn’t understand. A mission that I have to complete, no matter the cost.”

Lena felt a surge of anger and fear. She wanted to scream, but she couldn’t. She wanted to fight, but she couldn’t. She wanted to live, but she couldn’t.

She was stuck in a dying body, with a dying mind.

She was high voltage.
